Iurii Zhdanov

Zhdanov, Iurii Andreevich

 

Born Aug. 20, 1919, in Tver’ (present-day Kalinin). Soviet chemist; corresponding member of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR (1970). Member of the CPSU since 1944. Graduated from Moscow University in 1941. In 1957 he became the rector of the University of Rostov and in 1970 the chairman of the North Caucasus Scientific Center.

Zhdanov’s main works deal with naturally occurring chemical compounds, theoretical organic chemistry, and the philosophical problems of natural sciences. He has been awarded the Order of Lenin, three other orders, and medals.
