Tliusten, Iusuf Ibragimovich
Born Apr. 25, 1913, in the aul (village) of Shakhancherikhabl’, in what is now Teuchezh Raion. Soviet Adygeian poet. Member of the CPSU since 1941.
Tliusten studied at the Moscow Printing Institute and served in the Great Patriotic War (1941—45). He first published his works in 1938. Tliusten wrote the collection Adygeian Tales (1939) and the novella Light in the Mountains (1949), in which he depicted the struggle of the Adygeian people against the fascist occupiers. He also wrote the novels The Ozhbanokovs (1962; translated into Russian as It All Began in the Spring, 1966) and The Dawn of Maidens (1971). He also translated L. N. Tolstoy’s novella Hadji Murad.
Tliusten has been awarded four orders and various medals.
