a city under oblast jurisdiction in Cheliabinsk Oblast, RSFSR. Situated on the Uvel’ka River, 90 km southeast of Cheliabinsk and 7 km from the Nizhneuvel’skaia railroad station on the Cheliabinsk-Troitsk line. Population, 37,000(1974).

Iuzhno-Ural’sk was founded in 1963, during the building of the Southern Urals State Regional Electric Power Plant. Industry is represented by a porcelain plant, a machinery and repair plant, a hardware and insulator plant, a metal structural components plant, and enterprises of the construction and food-processing industries. An electric power technicum is located in the city.
