James Wendell Alexander

Alexander, James Wendell

Born Sept. 19, 1888, in Sea Bright, New Jersey. American mathematician. Member of the National Academy of Sciences in Washington.

Alexander graduated from Princeton University in 1910 and taught there, becoming a professor in 1928. In 1933 he became a professor at the Institute for Advanced Study. He has written works in the field of topology (in particular, Alexander proved the law of duality for polyhedrons in 1923), as well as in algebraic geometry, theory of functions, and others.
