Karl Friedrich Ledebour
Ledebour, Karl Friedrich
Born July 8,1785, in Stralsund; died July 4, 1851, in Munich. German botanist.
Ledebour graduated from the university in Greifswald in 1805 and then worked at the university. After being invited to Russia he became director of the Botanical Gardens in Dorpat (Tartu) (in 1805) and a professor at the university there. During his travels through the Altai in 1826, he collected and described about 400 new species of plants. He compiled the first critical summary of vascular plants in Russia, in which he described more than 6,500 species.
