Born, Ivan Martynovich

Year of birth unknown; died February 1851 in Stuttgart. Russian writer.

Born founded the Free Society of Lovers of Literature, Science, and the Arts in St. Petersburg; he was its president from December 1803 until July 15, 1805. His verses “Calis-trata’s Ode,” “Ode to Truth,” and “On the Death of Radishchev” reflected his closeness to the ideas of A. N. Radishchev. In 1808 he published the Short Guide to Russian Literature with the participation of A. Kh. Vostokov. In 1809 he moved to Tver’ and abandoned his literary activity; in 1816 he settled in Stuttgart.
