Ivanchenkov, Aleksandr Sergeevich
Born Sept. 28, 1940, in Ivanteevka, Moscow Oblast. Pilot-cosmonaut of the USSR. Hero of the Soviet Union (1978). Member of the CPSU since 1972.
Ivanchenkov graduated from the S. Ordzhonikidze Moscow Institute of Aviation in 1964 and joined the staff of a design office. He was named a cosmonaut in 1970. From June 15 to Nov. 2, 1978, Ivanchenkov was V. V. Kovalenok’s flight engineer aboard Soyuz 29 spacecraft and the Salyut 6 orbiting station. During Ivanchenkov’s flight—which lasted 140 days 14 hr 48 min—Salyut 6 docked with Progress supply craft, Soyuz 30 (manned by P. I. Klimuk and M. Hermaszewski), and Soyuz 31 (manned by V. F. Bykovskii and S. Jähn). Ivanchenkov returned to earth in Soyuz 31.
Ivanchenkov has been awarded the Order of Lenin.
