Established: Authorized on December 23, 1987.
Location:10 miles west of Americus, Georgia, on US 280.
Facilities:Rest rooms (é), visitor center (é), museum/exhibit.
Activities:Self-guided tour.
Special Features:The site includes President Carter's residence and boyhood home. The Plains High School, where both Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter attended grammar and high school, serves as the park's visitor center. The railroad depot, which served as campaign headquarters during the 1976 election, houses additional exhibits. The Jimmy Carter National Preservation District, separate from the park, includes part of the town of Plains and its environs.
