Vorovich, Iosif Izrailevich

 

Born June 21, 1920, in the city of Starodub, Briansk Oblast. Soviet specialist in continuum mechanics and the theory of elasticity. Corresponding member of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR (1970).

Vorovich graduated from the N. E. Zhukovskii Air Force Engineering Academy in 1944. His main works deal with mathematical problems of continuum mechanics, the nonlinear theory of shells, problems of stress concentration and thick plates, and mixed problems in the theory of elasticity. He was awarded the Order of the Badge of Honor and various medals.
