Ivan Konstantinovich Tarba

Tarba, Ivan Konstantinovich

 

Born Mar. 21, 1921, in the village of Beslakhuba, Ochamchire Raion. Soviet Abkhazian writer. Member of the CPSU since 1940.

Tarba graduated from the A. M. Gorky Sukhumi Pedagogical Institute in 1947. He has published many collections of poems and narrative poems, as well as the novels A Well-known Name (1963; Russian translation, 1964) and The Sun Rises Here (1968; Russian translation, 1970), which deal with the new life of the contemporary Abkhazian village. Tarba’s works have been translated into several national languages of the USSR. In 1958, Tarba became chairman of the Abkhazian division of the Writers’ Union of the USSR. He has been awarded two orders and several medals.
