Ivan Liakhov
Liakhov, Ivan
Date of birth unknown; died circa 1800. Russian merchant who explored the Novosibirskie (New Siberian) Islands.
In the spring of 1770, Liakhov traveled by sled over the frozen sea north of Cape Sviatoi Nos, visiting the island discovered by M. Vagin and la. Permiakov and another nearby island. Both islands were later named the Liakhov Islands in his honor. In 1773 and 1774, Liakhov explored these islands and discovered the island subsequently called Kotel’nyi Island. In 1775, Liakhov and S. Khvoinov, a surveyor, surveyed and described Bo’shoi Liakhov Island.
