Iova Reservoir

 

a reservoir formed in 1960–61 by a dam on the Iova (Kovda) River, located in Murmansk Oblast, RSFSR, and the Karelian ASSR.

Iova reservoir consists of lake (Sushozero, Rugozero, and Sokolozero) and river sectors. It has an area of 294 sq km and a volume of 2.06 cu km; it is 58 km long, with a maximum width of 10 km and an average depth of 7 m. The level of the reservoir varies no more than 2 m, offering seasonal runoff control. The reservoir is used for power generation, timber rafting, water supply, and fishing (cisco, whitefish, sea trout, grayling, pike, and smelt).
