Kelley, Francis Clement

(1870–1948) Catholic prelate; born on Prince Edward Island, Canada. A small-town pastor in Michigan and a chaplain in the Spanish American War, he founded the Catholic Church Extension Society (1905) to introduce and maintain Catholicism in far-flung rural areas of the U.S.A. He led the society until being named bishop of Oklahoma in 1924. He became a monsignor in 1915.
