Isocolons

(from “iso” and the Greek kolos, “fractured”, “mutilated”), lines of equal distortion that are used in the study and selection of a map projection. They are sometimes entered on maps to show the magnitude of distortion. A distinction is made among isocolons of particular scales, isocolons of areas, and other types.
