Ivanov, Andrei Vasil’evich

Born Oct. 16 (28), 1888, in the village of Kukshevo, in present-day Kostroma Oblast; died June 10, 1927, in Moscow. Soviet party and state figure. Became a member of the Communist Party in 1906.

During the Revolution of 1905–07, Ivanov conducted party work in Vladimir Province and in Moscow. In 1916 he headed the Bolshevik group at the Arsenal plant in Kiev. After the February Revolution of 1917, he was chairman of the Kiev provincial executive committee and a member of the Kiev committee of the RSDLP (Bolshevik). He was a delegate to the Sixth Congress of the RSDLP(B). During the October (1917) and January (1918) armed uprisings in Kiev, he was a member of the Revolutionary Committee. From December 1917 he was a member of the Central Executive Committee of the Ukraine and from March 1918 a member of the Presidium of the Central Executive Committee of the Ukraine. In 1918 he worked in the Central Committee of the Communist Party (Bolshevik) of the Ukraine. From February 1919 he served as chairman first of the Kiev and then of the Kharkov and Odessa provincial executive committees; he was a member of the Presidium and the secretary of the All-Ukrainian Central Executive Committee. He was a delegate to the Twelfth and Thirteenth Congresses of the party and at the Thirteenth Congress was elected a candidate member of the Central Committee of the RCP (Bolshevik). From 1925 he was a member of the Central Executive Committee of the USSR. He was a member of the Presidium, deputy chairman of the budget commission, and secretary of the Union Council of the Central Executive Committee of the USSR.
