Ivanov-Kramskoi, Aleksandr

Born Aug. 26 (Sept. 8), 1912, in Moscow; died Apr. 11, 1973, in Minsk. Soviet guitarist, Honored Artist of the RSFSR (1959).

Ivanov-Kramskoi was a pupil of the famous Russian guitarist P.S. Agafoshin. In 1933 he began appearing both in solo performances and with outstanding singers, including N.A. Obukhova and I.S. Kozlovskii. He won second prize at the All-Union Competition of Folk-instrument Players in 1939. He wrote many compositions, arrangements, and studies for six-string guitar (published 1947) and worked as a conductor (Russian Folk Choir of the All-Union Radio and other groups). He arranged folk songs for voice and orchestra and for a folk choir and orchestra of folk instruments.
