Ivanov, Lev Nikolaevich

Born July 15 (28), 1903, in Gorodishche, in present-day Penza Oblast; died Sept. 6, 1957, in Moscow. Soviet historian and economist, academician of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR (1943; corresponding member, 1939). Became a member of the CPSU in 1944.

Ivanov graduated from the department of social sciences of Moscow State University in 1923. From 1925 to 1947 he was senior research fellow at the Institute of the World Economy and World Politics of the Communist Academy (after 1936, of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR). He became chief of a sector of the Institute of Economics of the Academy of Sciences in 1948 and from April 1956 was chief of a sector of the Institute of the World Economy and International Relations. His principal works deal with the economics and history of international relations and with naval problems. Ivanov was a scholarly expert with the USSR delegation to the Paris Peace Conference of 1946 and was a member of the Soviet delegation at the 1946 and other sessions of the General Assembly of the United Nations. He was awarded two orders and various medals.
