Ivanov, Vadim Tikhonovich

 

Born Sept. 18, 1937, in Feodosiia, Crimean Oblast. Soviet chemist. Corresponding member of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR (1976). Member of the CPSU since 1964.

Ivanov graduated from Moscow State University in 1960. In 1963 he joined the staff of the Institute of the Chemistry of Natural Compounds of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR (now the M. M. Shemiakin Institute of Bio-Organic Chemistry of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR). He became head of the laboratory of the chemistry of peptides in 1971 and was named assistant director of the Institute of Bio-Organic Chemistry in 1972. Ivanov’s principal works are devoted to the synthesis and structure of biologically active peptides and proteins and to the mechanisms of their reactions.

Together with Iu. A. Ovchinnikov, Ivanov received the Lenin Prize in 1978. Ivanov has been awarded the Order of the Badge of Honor and various medals.
