iPad with Retina Display

iPad with Retina Display

The fourth-generation iPad, introduced in late 2012. Also called the "iPad 4," the addition of the "with Retina Display" to the name highlighted Apple's high-resolution screen, introduced on the iPad 3 (see New iPad). The iPad with Retina Display featured a faster processor and the Lightning connector, which debuted on the iPhone 5. The fourth-generation iPad was superseded by the iPad Air in 2013, but the Air naming was dropped in 2017. See iPad, iPad Air and Lightning connector.
