AIDS-Defining Disease

A disease which, when accompanied by evidence of HIV infection, fulfills the criteria necessary to diagnose AIDS. AIDS-defining diseases include Pneumocystis jiroveci pneumonia, Mycobacterium avium complex, AIDS dementia complex, AIDS wasting syndrome, invasive cervical cancer, Kaposi’s sarcoma, and CMV retinitis.
