Kakhet

Kakhet

 

(Kakhetian), a mountain range in the southern part of the Greater Caucasus, in the Georgian SSR. The range is a watershed of the Iori and Alazani rivers. Length, approximately 120 km; maximum elevation, 2,506 m. The Kakhet Range is formed mainly of sandstone, marl, and schist. The slopes are covered with broad-leaved forests and shrubbery, and mountain meadows are found at elevations of 2,000 m. There are vineyards on the lower slopes.
