a river in Stavropol’ Krai, RSFSR; a right tributary of the Vostochnyi Manych. Length, 436 km; basin area, 9, 700 sq km.

The Kalaus originates in the Stavropol’ uplands, fed by snow and rain. The average yearly water discharge at the village of Vozdvizhenskoe, 60 km from the mouth of the river, is 3.23 cu m per sec. The river freezes over in the first half of December and opens in mid-March. The city of Svetlograd is located on the Kalaus. The Kuban’-Kalaus irrigation system was being built as of 1973.
