Ives, Chauncey Bradley

(1810–94) sculptor; born in Hamden, Conn. Beginning as a woodcarver, he worked in Boston (1837–c. 1841) and New York City (c. 1841–44), studied in Florence, Italy (1844–51), then settled in Rome. He is known for his classical marble figures, such as Egeria (1876).
