(ī-sō-pros-tān), Compound derived from the free radical oxidation of arachidonic acid; resembles in some manner the prostoglandins. Elevated levels may be associated with atherosclerosis, hepatorenal syndrome, rheumatoid arthritis, and carcinogenesis.
