(i-sos'po-ra) [? + sporos, spore] A genus of Sporozoa belonging to the order Coccidia; found worldwide in warm climates as intestinal parasites of mammals, birds, and amphibians.

A species that causes acute, non-bloody diarrhea with crampy abdominal pain, which can last for weeks in immunocompromised patients, e.g., people with AIDS.
