Kaufman, Barry Neil

(1942– ) psychotherapist; born in New York City. He studied at Ohio State University, Hunter College, and the New School for Social Research. He was president of the Communications Quorum in New York City (1968–74) and founded the Option Institute in Sheffield, Mass., to teach nontraditional methods of self-realization through changed attitudes that fostered trust and healing. His books include Son-Rise (1976), Giant Steps (1979), and A Land Beyond Tears (1981).
