Kauko Kratts

Kratts, Kauko Ottovich

 

Born June 16, 1914, in Sudbury, Ontario, Canada. Soviet geologist; specialist in Precam-brian geology and petrography. Corresponding member of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR (1968).

Kratts graduated from the geology department of Leningrad State University in 1939. Between 1939 and 1946 he worked in industrial geological organizations on the Kola Peninsula and in Eastern Siberia. In 1946 he began to work in the system of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR, including the Geological Institute of the Kola Branch of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR. In 1967 he became director of the Institute of Geology and Precambrian Geochronology in Leningrad. His principal work has been on the geology, petrology, and Precambrian geo-chronology of the Baltic Shield (including work on the geology of the Karelian Karelides, 1963).
