Katsiev, Khabu Khadzhikurmanovich

 

(pseudonym, Khabib). Born May 13, 1916, in the aul (village) of Gundelen, present-day Baksan Raion, Kabarda-Balkar ASSR. Soviet Balkar writer. Member of the CPSU since 1939.

Katsiev graduated from the Higher Party School. He is the author of lyrical poems (the collection Heartfelt Joy, 1936) and stories (Stars of the Earth, 1940), depicting the struggle of the working people of the mountains to achieve Soviet power and to build a new life. In his collection of humorous and satirical short stories What’s New (1961), Katsiev effectively employs elements of the grotesque and popular speech. He has also written the collection of novellas and stories Muhammad (1964) and the novel Tamata (1971).
