Malaia Sos’va

 

a river in the Khanty-Mansi National Okrug, Tiumen’ Oblast, RSFSR; a right tributary of the Severnaia Sos’va River (Ob’ basin). Length, 484 km; basin area, 10,400 sq km. The river flows along the western edge of the West Siberian Lowland. There are many swamps in the lower course, where the river crosses Lake Man’-Tur. The Malaia Sos’va is fed by mixed sources, primarily by snow. Flooding occurs from May through September. The average flow rate 173 km from the mouth is approximately 40 cu m per sec. The river freezes in October and thaws in April or May. The principal left tributary is the Punga River. The settlement of Igrim is located at the point at which the river empties into the Severnaia Sos’va. Some of the gas deposits of the Berezovo gas-bearing region are in the basin of the Malaia Sos’va.
