Khafiz

among the Tadzhiks and Afghans, a folk singer and narrator of epic and lyric works. The repertoire of the khafiz includes folk poetry and literary works, such as folk dastans, Ferdowsi’s Shah-nameh, and lyric narrative poems, notably those of Nizami and Amir Khosrow Dehlavi. The khafiz also creates his own poems in the various genres of folk poetry.
