Khamil Iakubov

Iakubov, Khamil’ Islamovich

 

Born 1907 in Tashkent. Soviet literary scholar, critic, and educator. Doctor of philological sciences (1966). Member of the CPSU since 1945.

Iakubov graduated from the economics department of the Middle Asian University in 1932. In 1934 he became a research worker at the Institute of Language and Literature of the Academy of Sciences of the Uzbek SSR; he has served as head of the institute’s department of Soviet literature.

Iakubov has written a monograph on Gafur Guliam (1959) and two works on Aibek: Ideology and Literary Mastery in the Lyrics of Aibek (1963) and A Writer’s Literary Mastery (1966). One of the authors of An Outline of the History of Soviet Uzbek Literature (vols. 1–2, 1961–62), he also helped prepare the monograph Soviet Uzbek Literature (vols. 1–3, 1967–72).

Iakubov has been awarded the Order of the Badge of Honor and various medals.
