Khara-Nur

Khara-Nur

 

a drainage lake in the western part of the Mongolian People’s Republic (MPR), in the Great Lakes Depression. The lake covers an area of 530 sq km and is situated at an elevation of 1,132 m. It has a maximum depth of 7 m. Khara-Nur is connected by channels with the lakes Khara-Us-Nur and Durgen-Nur and drains into the Dzabkhan River. The lake has low, desert shores. It is rich in fish.

In various parts of the Mongolian People’s Republic there are several other lakes by the same name.
