Kharlamov, Sergei Dmitrievich

Born Sept. 26 (Oct. 8), 1881, in Sevastopol’; died May 25, 1965, in Moscow. Veteran of the Civil War of 1918–20. Major general (1940).

The son of nobility, Kharlamov graduated from the Academy of the General Staff in 1910. After serving in World War I as a colonel, he enlisted in the Red Army in May 1918. During the Civil War, Kharlamov served as chief of the Directorate of Operations of the All-Russian Main Staff from May 1918 to February 1919, instructor at the Academy of the General Staff, and chief of staff of the Fifteenth Army from May to September 1919. In the rout of General N. N. Iudenich, Kharlamov commanded the Seventh Army from Sept. 26 to Oct. 17, 1919, and took command of the Kolpino attack force on October 18. In 1920 he became chief of staff of the Ukrainian Labor Army and assistant chief of staff of the armed forces in the Ukraine and the Crimea. Kharlamov reassumed the duties of instructor in 1921.
