Meana-Baba

Meana-Baba

the mausoleum of Abu Said of Meikhen in the village of Miana (or Meana), in Ashkhabad Raion, Turkmen SSR. It was built in the llth century (murals and incrustation belong to the 14th century). The mausoleum is a domed, nearly cubical structure with a portal; it is made from fired brick. The monumentality of the mausoleum is brought out by the geometrical clarity of masses, by the contrast of the facade’s blank lower parts and the upper parts that are articulated by rectangles with arched bays, and by a certain thickening of the walls toward their bases. The incrustation of the portal, consisting of glazed ceramic plates of light blue, white, and dark blue tones, imparts a certain decorativeness to the mausoleum.
