Kheiran Khanum was born into an aristocratic family in Nakhichevan’, in what is now the Azerbaijan SSR. m the early 19th century she moved to Iran and spent the rest of her life in Tabriz. She knew both Persian and Arabic and studied the classical literature of the East. In Azerbaijani and Persian she wrote lyric verse in various genres, including the ghazal, mukhammas, rubai, and qasida. The main theme of her poetry is passionate, noble, and self-abnegating love. In some of her poems, Kheiran Khanum expressed discontent with the life around her and protested against evil and social injustice and the lack of rights and the oppressed position of women.
