a river in Krasnoiarsk Krai, RSFSR; left branch of the Khatanga. The Kheta River is 604 km long and drains an area of 100,000 sq km. It is formed by the confluence of the Aian and Aiakli rivers, which rise in the Putorana Plateau. The river flows through the North Siberian Lowland and breaks up into smaller channels near its estuary; lakes make up 4.8 percent of the river’s area. The Kheta River is fed by snow and rain. The mean flow rate is about 1,370 cu m per sec. The river is frozen from late September or early October until late May or early June. The chief left tributaries are the Boiarka and Maimecha rivers; the principal right tributary is the Boganida. The river is navigable and abounds in fish (muksun, cisco, nelma).
