Nonruminantia
(also Suiformes), a suborder of mammals of the order Artiodactyla. The large or medium-size animals have a thick trunk and short legs. There are no horns. The thick skin is hairless or sparsely covered with coarse stubble. The crowns of the molars have a nodular surface. Nonruminantia, in contrast to Ruminantia, do not chew their cud. The cecum is small or absent. There are two families, Hippopotamidae and Suidae.
