Khiabani, Muhammad

 

Born 1880 in Khamneh, near Tabriz; died Sept. 14, 1920. in Tabriz. Sheikh; leader of the Tabriz Uprising of 1920.

The son of a merchant, Khiabani received a religious education. He took part in the Iranian Revolution of 1905–11 and was a deputy to the second Majlis (1909–11) as a representative of Iranian Azerbaijan. Khiabani was a member of the Democratic Party. During the Tabriz Uprising of 1920 he headed the National Government of Iranian Azerbaijan. While the uprising was being suppressed by government troops, Khiabani was killed.
