Khisaria

a balneological health resort in Bulgaria, 42 km north of Plovdiv. Khisaria is located on the southern slopes of Sredna Gora. Its mineral springs have been known since the fourth and third centuries B.C. Winters are very mild, with an average January temperature of about 0°C; summers are hot, with an average July temperature of about 23°C. Precipitation totals about 610 mm annually. Therapeutic remedies include 16 weakly mineralized sodium bicarbonate springs (Khavuz, Chair-Bania, and Samodivski) and sodium bicarbonate-sulfate springs containing fluorine and radon (Momina-Bania, Parilkite, Momina Sleza, and Pepeliashka). The waters are used for bathing, irrigation, inhaling, and drinking. Grape therapy is also available. The resort offers treatment for disorders of the gastrointestinal tract, the liver, the kidneys, the peripheral nervous system, and the musculoskeletal system. Gynecological and metabolic problems are also treated. The resort has balneological clinics (with baths and swimming pools) and sanatoriums for children and adults.
