(mik'sō-kok-sid'ē-ŭm steg'ō-mī'ē-ē), A protozoon once found in the body of the mosquito, Stegomyia calopus,which had fed on the blood of a patient with yellow fever; the organism was then postulated, incorrectly, to be the causal agent of yellow fever.
