Lomonosov Upland

a plateau in the central part of the island of Vestspitsbergen, belonging to Norway. The average elevation is 1,000 m, with some nunataks rising above the glaciers to 1,487 m. Annual snow accumulation exceeds 1,000 mm, and summer thawing is negligible (the average July temperature is — 1.5°C). The Lomonosov Upland feeds several large glaciers, including Nordenskioldbreen and Mittog-Lefflerbreen. It was named in honor of M. V. Lomonosov by the Russian-Swedish expedition for measuring meridian degrees (led by F. N. Chernyshev), which visited the area in 1899 and 1900.
