Khodzhabakirgan
a river in Osh Oblast, Kirghiz SSR, and Leninabad Oblast, Tadzhik SSR; a left tributary of the Syr Darya. The Khodzhabakirgan River is 130 km long and drains an area of 1,740 sq km. It rises on the northern slope of the Turkestan Range and ends in a fan-shaped irrigation net linked with the Bol’shoi Fergana Canal. The river is fed by mixed sources, predominantly snow. The mean flow rate 45 km from the mouth is approximately 11 cu m per sec. The chief drainage period is from October through February (about 50 percent); the greatest discharge occurs in July. The Khodzhabakirgan is the site of a reservoir with an area of 5.3 sq km. The river is used for irrigation.
