Khokhloma

a village in Kovernino Raion, Gorky Oblast, RSFSR. Khokhloma has been famous since the 17th century as the center of Khokhloma wood painting. The village became part of Semenov District of Nizhny Novogorod Province in the 18th century;since 1936 it has been part of Gorky Oblast.
