Maldivians
a people who inhabit the Maldives. Population, 114,000 (1972, estimate). The Maldivian language is related to Sinhalese; it belongs to the Indian (Indo-Aryan) group of the Indo-European family of languages. The religion of the Maldivians is Islam. Their principal occupations are fishing, other maritime industries, and seafaring.
