Khushvakhtov, Khushbakht Davliatovich

 

Born Dec. 9, 1926, in the village of Rushan, Rushan Raion, Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Oblast. Soviet painter. People’s Artist oftheTadzhikSSR(1974). Member of the CPSU since 1962.

Khushvakhtov studied at the V. I. Surikov Moscow Art Institute from 1953 to 1960. He has served as chairman of the board of the Artists’ Union of Tadzhikistan since 1961. He taught at the Republic Art School in Dushanbe in 1960–61. Khushvakhtov’s landscapes and thematic pictures depicting the Pamir’s majestic scenery and its inhabitants are characterized by a restrained palette, vividness, and traditionalist artistic solutions. Examples are Khoroq (1961), The Alai Valley (1962), In Years Gone By (1967), Native Craftsmen (1970) and Yaks (1970); all are at the Bekhzad Republic Museum of History, Local Lore, and Fine Arts in Dushanbe.
