Khusin Gashokov

Gashokov, Khusin Khanakhovich

 

Born July 2, 1913, in Khabez aul (village), in present-day Karachai-Cherkess Autonomous Oblast. A Soviet Cherkess writer and a member of the CPSU since 1939.

Gashokov took part in the Great Patriotic War. He began writing in the 1930’s. Gashokov is the author of the collections Poems and Songs (1940), Verses and Poems (1953), The Heart’s Voice (1955), and We Shall Bring Glory to Our Homeland by Labor (1961). Collections of verse that have been translated into Russian include Light in the Mountains (1952), The Sun Above the Auls (1957), The Heart With Joy Overflowing (1960), and I Walk Upon the Earth (1965). He has also written some prose works (the novella Father and Son, books 1-2, 1959-63). He has been awarded four orders and also medals.
