Ruzbih, Khusraw

Born Apr. 15, 1915, near the city of Mi-lajerd, northwestern Iran; died May 11, 1958, in Tehran. Figure in the revolutionary movement in Iran.

The son of a supply officer, Ruzbih graduated from a higher officers’ school in Tehran in 1937. He served in an antiaircraft regiment, then taught mathematics and artillery in the artillery department of the Military Academy in Tehran.

In 1943, Ruzbih joined the Tudeh Party (Masses Party). He was a leader of the Tudeh Party’s Organization of Freedom-loving Officers and was elected to the Tudeh Party’s Central Committee. He was arrested repeatedly and escaped from prison several times. On July 6, 1957, betrayed by a provocateur, he was again captured by the police. He displayed extraordinary fortitude and courage during his interrogation and closed court martial. He was executed by firing squad. His speeches at the court martial have been published in the book A Heart Handed to the Storms (Moscow, 1962). Ruzbih wrote several works on mathematics, artillery, and the modern history of Iran.
