London riots
London riots
A series of riots that began after a peaceful march in August, 2011, in response to the fatal shooting of Mark Duggan earlier that month by the London Metropolitan Police Service. The Service was trying to arrest him on suspicion of a planned revenge attack after the fatal stabbing of his cousin. He died from a gunshot wound to the chest. The Tottenham march grew out of control and escalated into widespread rioting, looting and arson in several London boroughs and scattered cities in England, resulting in 5 deaths, 16 injuries, and £200 million worth of property damage. Multiple factors have been blamed for the riots.Causative factors
Dysfunctional families with rampant juvenile delinquency, poor relations with police, social exclusion, culture of welfare dependence, sense of entitlement by teenagers and young adults, government cuts, high unemplyoment, gang culture, criminal opportunism, moral decay from the top, failure of the penal system.
