mean time
mean time or mean solar timen (Astronomy) the time, at a particular place, measured in terms of the passage of the mean sun; the timescale is not precisely constant. See mean solar daymean time Time measured with reference to an imaginary sun that lies in the same plane as the Earth's equator and that the Earth orbits at a constant speed. Using this convention results in equal, 24-hour days throughout the year. If days were measured by the actual movement of the sun, they would vary slightly in length at different times of the year.ThesaurusNoun | 1. | mean time - (astronomy) time based on the motion of the mean sun (an imaginary sun moving uniformly along the celestial equator)mean solar timeastronomy, uranology - the branch of physics that studies celestial bodies and the universe as a wholetime unit, unit of time - a unit for measuring time periods |
