a city in the western part of the Chechen-Ingush ASSR, 43 km south of the Mozdok railroad station (on the Prokhladnyi-Gudermes line). Population, 21,300 (1972). Malgobek arose in 1933 in connection with the discovery of an oil deposit. It became a city in 1939. The oil produced in Malgobek is transported by pipeline to Groznyi and Tuapse. A brickyard and enterprises of the food-processing industry are located in the city.
